O'Leary
Before you could shout O'Leary look out! ........

This page has links to web things O'Le@ry.

For some time now I have been collecting links to various O'Leary web sites around the world and, when I have the time, placing them here on the web. Now there are so many "O-bloody-digital-Leary's" that the site has to be re-organised. I have not updated the O'Leary sites since about late 2001. Its now early 2003 and I'm about to starta round of updating and re-organising. So if you have any new or old links you think i should know about please let me know at oleary@strategos.com.au

One of the changes I have made is to place the pages on my business company server and domain.

My company is Strategos Australia and the website is www.strategos.com.au

The O'Leary pages will be at www.strategos.com.au/oleary/

So, brothers and sisters, (or for the younger ones - bros' and sistas) please update your links.

My anti virus page is now at www.strategos.com.au/virus/

The new pages are a great lot and can be found here. I have had to create a new section just for Pubs and Eateries and another called "Business O'Learys". I may, against my better judgement, need to include a Sport O'Leary section. It is a pleasure tho' to see the O'Leary Hawks Team, so much so that I have put their logo on a page. What a spiffy lookin' logo. Getting to sound like the S**** Girls isnt it?

!|! 19 March 2001 Another whingeing O'Leary pops up and sucks up to me to be included. It worked! From Peter Barry in Canada, he trys to claim hes a related O'Leary. Drop in and have a look. "As I sit here sipping some Guiness left over from yesterday's celebrations (only 364 days to practice for next year, and the advertising slogan says), I would like to propose our web site for inclusion in your list of business O'Leary's. We operate "O'Leary's Pantry", a business in Nova Scotia that produces specialty mustards and gourmet condiments. Our motto is "It's 100%, nothing but the best!".
NB: See how I resisted putting the comma in another place, as in:
"It's 100% nothing, but the best!".

!|! Owen O'Leary has updated his page and changed url. He has some good band reviews and a bit about sheep. Hrumph!!! - he thinks there is a lot of sheep in Ireland. Sheep - I'll tell you about sheep

!|! Its the one with the big cow on the front, cant miss it. Home of O'Leary Language Systems, Japan-an English Institute and Translation Company. Moooo. (I think these YOKO'Leary's should import the Semen Shipper, mentioned below, into Japan)

!|! I just found this O'Leary Clan page here. It also has a notice board if you are needing information about searching for relatives. (Or, as is more likely, trying to avoid them)

!|! O'Leary on the spot NAT-O'Leary. Tom O'Leary has a web site from Italy while he is serving with NATO right now. Soon to move to Ireland. Check out his pictures of planes and stuff. Don't forget his writings and poems.

!|! O'Leary's Murder Mysterys

!|! Check out the O'Leary Semen Shipper . I am thinking we might be able to start a O'Leary semen bank now that we have access to this technology. The world domination effort will advance quickly now. Please don't send samples by surface mail.

!|! For any fans of Father Ted, the store keepers on the island are * The O'Learys*. I now have some good Fr Ted links and photos. These include some sound files of the O'Leary's fighting as normal and also putting on a good luvvy-duvvy show for the Praest. More soon I hope - let me know if you have some good Father Ted sites.

!|! Timothy Stuart O'Leary has written from NYC, he works for the USA Navy and has whipped up a small work website in his spare time.

!|! Great link to: "Hazel O'Leary's World Tour" thrills and spills with Hazel's expense account as she jets around the planet ensuring world peace or something to do with energy, or something. NB: I would like to hear from any O'Learys that Hazel happened to drop in on for a cuppa tea or to sleep on the couch during her tours.

There is a town called O'Leary on Prince Edward Island (known as PEI) Canada. The PEI web page is one of the best pages I have seen. It manages to combine information for local and expat PEI people with good touristy info and a sensible layout. One of the few times I recommend having images ON. The town of O'Leary is host to the PEI Spud Museum.

This bit about the name O'Leary was pinched from another O'Leary page.
Tim O'Leary from Italy, (yes Italy!), tells me that the name means "Calf Tender", given that I just loved tending the poddies on the farm it makes sense.

One of Yeats' poems, September 1913, repeats the lines at the end of each verse:

"Romantic Ireland's dead and gone,
It's with O'Leary in the grave"

This poem mourns the death of John O'Leary, that noble figure, the old Fenian revolutionary who had inspired Yeats' revolutionary years. He contrasts O'Leary's nobility and, as he sees it, that of the reckless and doomed patriots of the past, Lord Edward Fitzgerald, Robert Emmet and Wolfe Tone, "All that delirium of the brave", with a pious, craven, money-grubbing section of Ireland which he elected to see in the present.

Yeats writes again at length about his relationship with O'Leary in "Reveries over Childhood and Youth".
He credits O'Leary for much of his inspiration, saying:

"......from O'Leary's conversation, and from the Irish books he lent or gave me has come all I have set my hand to since"

The New York Yeats Society is one of the best places to start for Yeats links.

In my opinion Van Morrison is a legitimate heir to Yeats legacy, many of his songs are performed in a mannner that allows me to enter into the same kind of reverie that good poetry inspires.

A piece about Tim Leary and me.

Throughout a big part of my life I have always been confused with Timothy Leary. People would say "Not THE Timothy Leary" as if that were something funny. I never really saw the joke.
Firstly, my name is Timothy O'Leary, and to me that seems nothing like Timothy Leary, secondly he was an American and much older than me, and thirdly, I, unlike many other people, had taken some time to study a bit about Tim Leary and what he actually said and stood for, as oppose to merely reading the media reports of his activities. So I came to live with the constant questions and giggles, all the time keeping up with Tim and his writings and doings.

When I heard he was on the web I hot footed it to his site and wandered around. I must say that I was surprised by the friendly personal nature of the page. The news that he was dying sent me back to his page and I was intrigued by his self determined pain control and self administered palliative care. Naturally this was portrayed in the media as his "daily drug/dope/illicit substances intake" as if his carefully described and modified regime was indulgent and rebellious. Although there has been some movement in palliative care it seems that the notion still exists that the dying should at least feel some pain, albiet slightly dulled, but that to be actually reasonably comfortable or even, shock horror, happy is far too subversive to contemplate. So the press ridiculed Tim in his public efforts to convey his medication regime to others who might wish to alleviate their pain and suffering.

Enough! I've decided to posthumously make Tim Leary an honourary O'Leary

If you are an O'nLine O'Leary and would like to buy your round of drinks on the net, and be linked here, drop me a sycophantic line or two and I will link you to the O'WWWeary Net. Yes! I want to help the O'Leary world domination effort. Email oleary@strategos.com.au
