Click of Death - Iomega ZIP drives

The long saga of my (losing) battle with a 3 months old Iomega ZIP drive is coming here.

!|! NEW Steve Gibson has developed a FREE program for data recovery after a CIH virus attack.

Hard Drive Recovery: The CIH virus erases the first 2,048 sectors (1 megabyte) of each of the system's non-removable and writable disk drives. While this is certainly troublesome, the damage is very often 100% reversible and recoverable! (This is especially true if the drive contained multiple partitions, since only the first partition was truly damaged..)

A few cautionary links about ZIP's and the "Click of Death". Also known as COD. Steve Gibson's homepage also offers a freeware program to inspect your ZIP disks and drive for signs of COD.

Below is a list of links pinched off Steve's page:New Class action news. CNET - Iomega sued over Zip drive noise by Reuters, Special to CNET News.com, September 18, 1998.
